The Beachhouse was a project rooted in transition, designed for a family between homes but still deserving of a space that felt distinctly theirs. Having just sold their villa and leased this Palm Jumeirah residence as a temporary stop before beginning construction on their forever home, the clients asked Studio SuCo to transform what was essentially a rental into something personal and welcoming. With a limited window during the summer holidays and restrictions on structural alterations, the challenge was to deliver a home that carried warmth, identity, and character, while respecting the boundaries of a temporary lease.

Temporary rental refresh with furniture, styling, and light architectural touches

To achieve this, we worked with strategic interventions that had immediate impact. Interior doors were refreshed with colour, bold wallpaper was introduced in selected zones, and a carefully composed furniture and accessory scheme was created to combine the breezy aesthetic of Dubai’s beachfront lifestyle with elements of the family’s South African heritage. Many of their personal pieces were reinterpreted and layered with new finds that balanced budget and effect, ensuring every room felt intentional yet effortless. The entire transformation was completed while the family was away for the summer, allowing them to return to a home that felt curated, comfortable, and entirely their own.
This project was a reminder that even temporary spaces have the power to anchor and restore. Although this was never intended to be their permanent home, I believed it was important that it still carried the qualities of belonging and care. The focus was on creating texture, layering tone, and introducing touches of bold character that reflected who they are as a family. By blending their South African roots with elements of Dubai’s coastal lifestyle, the design spoke directly to their identity while offering ease and comfort. When they returned and experienced the home fully styled and ready, the sense of recognition and relief in their reaction affirmed that design can be just as meaningful in moments of transition as it is in forever homes.
